Mid-Century Modern Riverside Home

This late Mid-Century Modern property forms part of a wider, private estate of eleven homes within an historic Berkshire village and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its river frontage with exclusive inlet and private mooring, surrounded by extensive water meadows and parklands, place it within the most picturesque, peaceful, and verdant of settings.

The award-winning development, completed in 1972, has been sensitively revived, with many of the original features and details conserved within the new scheme. Working alongside our client and Interior Designer Nia Morris Studio, we developed a design that maximised the original split-level qualities of the home, natural light, and extensive views of the River Thames, to create a striking, contemporary family home.

Design highlights include mezzanine dining area with minimalist kitchen by Kitchen Architecture and double height living space with beautiful Barbas Bellfires inset corner stove. A bespoke oak sawtooth stringer staircase runs alongside an original exposed brickwork spine wall, with intricately detailed shadow gaps at floor, wall, ceiling and door junctions.

As Conservation specialists, our approach to retaining the integrity of heritage sites, whilst breathing in new life, remains as sensitive for Modern homes of the sixties and seventies, as it is for much older, historic properties - and with extensive experience in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our care and consideration extends far beyond the house itself.
