Contemporary Rural Scheme

This contemporary residential scheme – set in the stunning Oxfordshire village of Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor - was designed to utilise a formerly redundant paddock, diversifying the land and portfolio of properties in the village, to generate four modern homes with communal garden space and private parking, with series of strategic applications secured planning for expansion to include an additional six home, currently under construction.

With a diverse mix of properties, reflective of the distinct periods of development throughout the village’s history – including several notable Grade II and Grade II* Listed Buildings – a varied vernacular style typical of rural Oxfordshire contextualises the site. These low energy dwellings, designed with a modern aesthetic, are therefore unmistakably rural in character.

The simple form of the buildings and large expanses of glazing are reminiscent of a traditional barn conversion and tie the development to its setting. The principal façades utilise brickwork cladding, and zinc for a sleek, yet sympathetic, modern edge – while internal features include vaulted double height entrances, black open tread floating steel staircases and log burning stoves.
