This week, we are delighted to shine the spotlight on Mike Wyn-Jones, an exceptionally skilled Architect whose expertise, technical prowess & calm demeanour have made him an invaluable member of our team for the past five & a half years.
Mike’s architectural journey is marked by a rich & varied career, underscored by a deep passion for design, a meticulous eye for detail & an unwavering commitment to excellence. His architectural studies commenced at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University, where he completed his Part I & II qualifications, before gaining his Part III at London South Bank University. Mike’s early career saw him spend fifteen years in London, where he honed his craft across a diverse range of practices. From working on prestigious mixed-use residential, retail & office schemes in Chelsea & Belgravia, to leading complex projects above the Victoria line tunnels in Mayfair, Mike’s experience is as extensive as it is impressive. His time in London also included significant roles on speculative office developments for leading developer clients, showcasing his adaptability & skill in managing large-scale commercial projects.
After nearly a decade in large commercial practices, Mike made a conscious shift towards bespoke residential architecture, joining a smaller practice where he focused on the refurbishment, extension & new build of homes in North London. This move highlighted his desire to connect more closely with the personal & human side of architecture - something that continues to drive his work today. Since relocating to Oxfordshire with his wife & family, Mike has been integral to the practice, bringing his wealth of experience & a unique architectural interest in Mid-Century Modern houses & traditional Japanese design.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mike’s calm approach & attention to detail have earned him immense respect among his colleagues. He is not only a technically gifted Architect but also a supportive team member, always ready to lend his expertise to help others. His technical knowledge & precision have been instrumental in the successful completion of complex projects like Bridge End House, a distinctive example of mid-20th-century architecture set against the historic backdrop of Dorchester Abbey, due to feature on our channels in the coming months.
Mike's interests & talents extend beyond architecture. He is a proud husband to Lydia & father to their two children, is a gifted musician, enjoys extensive travel with his family & learning Mandarin, showcasing his dedication to learning & personal growth.
Mike embodies the values that define our practice – creativity, precision & a deep commitment to the craft of architecture. His journey is a testament to his dedication & his ability to inspire those around him. We feel incredibly fortunate to have Mike as part of our team.
